Long Way From Home
Long Way From Home

Dear Blue Star Mothers of America,
I am an American landscape artist. Recently, I created this original oil painting as a tribute to Blue Star Mothers and their service children.

Long Way From Home
In recognition of Blue Star Mothers
This painting tells the story of a mother’s child and his military service to our country—defending our liberty and freedom—a “Long Way From Home”.
Alongside a peaceful country road, the soldier’s childhood home appears frozen in time, gripped by winter’s ice and cold. The setting sun is casting long shadows across the landscape. On the distant horizon the fading light still shines brightly through the woods, warming the scene with all its radiance.
Positioned prominently in the foreground, a mailbox leans towards the snow-covered road, empty and open, as if yearning to receive just one more letter from the soldier who writes no more.
A service flag still hangs in the front window, now with a gold star placed in front of the blue star … in recognition of the sacrifice a mother and her child gave to their country, family and friends.
